X Creator Monetization News 2026
The changes to X’s monetization program that actually affect your payouts — tracked, dated, and explained in plain terms. We update this page as X updates the rules.
X changes its monetization rules more often than any other major platform — thresholds shift, the payout model is reweighted, and eligibility criteria change with little warning. This page tracks the updates that matter for creators trying to get and stay monetized, newest first.
How to use this page: the entries below are dated. If you’re returning, scan for anything newer than your last visit. For the full current rules rather than the changes, see our X monetization requirements guide.

MAJOR CHANGE
X replaces Revenue Sharing with the Original Content Rewards Program
X is discontinuing the Creator Revenue Sharing program and replacing it with the new Original Content Rewards Program. New enrollments to the old program stopped on August 7, 2026; the last day to earn under the old system is September 7, 2026; and the new program begins September 8, 2026. The new program pays creators based on qualified impressions from Premium users on original content in the Home Timeline — replies no longer count. What it means for you: This is the biggest change to X monetization since it launched. The impression threshold dropped to 500,000 over 90 days, but only qualified Premium-user impressions on original content count. If you were earning under the old system, you’ll need to re-qualify under the new one.
2026Eligibility
Core eligibility thresholds
To join the Original Content Rewards Program, accounts need an active X Premium (or Premium Business) subscription, 500 verified followers, and around 500,000 qualified impressions from Premium users over 90 days, plus a verified payout setup and account in good standing.
What it means for you: the impressions threshold remains the wall most accounts hit. Everything else is admin; this is the part that takes consistent work.
2026Payments
Payouts run through Stripe, bi-weekly
Eligible creators are paid through a connected Stripe account, typically every two weeks once they pass the $30 minimum payout threshold.
What it means for you: earnings go straight from X to your own bank. No service should ever need access to your payouts — if one asks, that’s a red flag.
OngoingPremium+
Premium+ boosts reach and revenue share
The Premium+ tier continues to offer a larger reply-reach boost, fewer ads, and a higher share of revenue for creators serious about monetization.
What it means for you: if monetization is your goal, Premium+ often pays for itself through the reach and revenue-share bump.
A note on accuracy: X’s exact figures shift over time and can vary by region. Always confirm current numbers against X’s official Help Center before making decisions — and check the date on any advice you read, including ours.
What these changes mean for creators
Pull the updates together and a clear pattern emerges for 2026:
- Quality beats quantity. X keeps steering payouts toward genuine, Premium-user engagement.
- The impressions wall has moved. The threshold dropped to ~500K / 90 days, but now only qualified Premium-user impressions count.
- Niche focus wins. A defined audience gets better distribution and better-paying engagement.
- Your money stays yours. Direct Stripe payouts mean no legitimate service touches your earnings.
None of this makes monetization impossible — it makes it a skill. The creators who win build the right engagement consistently, which is what most people can’t sustain alone.
